Global CO₂ Emissions Remain Stagnant for Third Year in a Row

I really don’t know why I haven’t heard about this great news on TV or in the newspapers. Maybe I overlooked it, I guess (hope) such an important peace of news was featured somewhere in the major news outlets?!

What is even more impressive than CO₂ emissions remaining stagnant at around 32 billion tonnes, is the fact that the world economy grew by 3.1% during those 3 years according to the International Energy Agency (IEA). Although it is not yet definite that we have reached the tipping point, it is certainly an encouraging sign that we’re going in the right direction.

Personally I’m sure we have reached peak emissions because all the reports and data about the increase in renewable energy production, closure of coal plants in China as well as generally declining CO₂ emissions in China, the U.S. and the EU point heavily in that direction!
