About

This blog is about proving that – contrary to what most people (sadly) think – the world is getting better, not worse!!! By posting statistics, articles and all sorts of facts I want to convince people that the world is becoming a better place. I don’t mean to say that everything is perfect (far from it), or that everything is improving everywhere all the time (sometimes things get worse before they get better) but there is no doubt in my mind that over the long term, often medium term and sometimes even short term, the world is improving.

I think it is much more helpful and productive for the increasing betterment of our world, if people are shown the constant improvement we are making. By posting indisputably positive facts, I want to create a counterbalance to the constant bombardment of negative and often half true news by the general media. Also, in the light of increasing fake news in social media and other channels I think it is of utmost importance to counter this “trend” with preventive facts and education of the populace. The keyword here is preventive, since I don’t think it’s enough to call people out on their bullshit (pardon my french! 😅). As soon as people see fake news the damage has already been done. Declaring the news fake in public helps – and is definitely necessary – it can only undo part of the damage.

By flooding all media channels with positive facts – or just correct facts even if not positive – ahead of any misinformation, we can make ourselves somewhat repellent to misinformation. This brings me to my last point, which is education!!

Everything starts with education and I think there is huge room for improvement in our classrooms – this is by the way independent from where you live. From my point of view many issues could be avoided if educational facilities focused more on 1.) Emotional Intelligence/Social Competence, 2.) Natural Sciences/technology and 3.) Critical Thinking.

The natural sciences, especially physics, are the basis for everything. If you have a good grasp on the fundamentals of physics as well as the most common/most important principles of how certain technologies work, you can’t be easily fooled. Together with the ability to think critically and being able to correctly interpret statistical data/charts people would be highly resistant to manipulation.

Finally, the EQ (Emotional Quotient) together with social competence (if thats not the same anyways) may be even more important, because being intelligent doesn’t necessarily make you a good person. So if we want to live in a peaceful world, we need to learn to get along with each other and for that to come true, we need education of the heart. Since most of our character forms when we are still very young, it is at that point in time where we have to do something in order for our kids to become not only knowledgeable and intelligent….but Wise!!

All those measures put together will make our kids as well as ourselves virtually impervious to manipulation by fake news, the media or people using misinformation to spread hatred like so many right wing populists.

Just like a Lotus leaf that repels water.
